Opening day is the final test of the whole environment: ice, air, access, safety, staff routines and public flow.
Before ice making
Confirm the slab, piping, insulation, drains, boards, glass, access routes, plant room, controls, electrical supply and emergency procedures. The operator should know who owns each check and where the record will be kept.
During commissioning
Record temperatures, pressures, humidity, surface observations, recovery behaviour and control settings. Keep a clear issue list with an owner and a target close date. A clean record is more useful than a vague statement that the system is working.
Before the first public session
Train the operators
Confirm daily checks, resurfacing routines, alarms, maintenance access, emergency contacts and escalation.
Walk every route
Check player, public, service and first-aid routes, boards, gates, glass, signage and access control.
Protect the first session
Verify surface condition, temperature, visibility, recovery settings and a realistic schedule for the opening day.
Opening readiness is not one final inspection. It is the point at which the project team hands the venue a repeatable way to operate.
